UQ marketing and communications news

April 2017

Network forum wrap-up

OMC hosted the first UQ Marketing and Communications Network Forum for 2017 yesterday.

In case you missed it, Russ Vine from UQ’s new advertising agency, Ogilvy, gave a detailed presentation to introduce himself and the agency and provide an overview of their priorities. The presentation outlined how campaigns executed for their current and past clients will inform their direction with UQ, and, briefly covered how Ogilvy will work with UQ to roll out Oracle Eloqua across the University's marketing strategies. You can access a copy of their presentation here.

OMC also gave an overview of the capabilities of the incoming university-wide photography panel – a list of 10 approved suppliers of photography and videography, comprising freelance and studio photographers and videographers. You can access the presentation online or visit the OMC website for details about each supplier, their pricing and how to book their services.

UQ graduation week stories

The 2017 mid-year graduations will be held from Monday 17–Friday 21 July and the OMC Communications team is looking for great stories, fabulous talent and unusual angles to give zing to our graduation coverage.

In addition, nominated comms people from schools and faculties will be needed to liaise with OMC on graduation speeches and other tasks to ensure the process is as streamlined and straightforward as possible.

Suggestions and enquiries should be directed to Esther Haskell at e.haskell@uq.edu.au or on 3346 7887.

OMC acting management arrangements

Following Graham Bethune’s resignation, a number of OMC management roles are currently filled on an acting basis.

Lindy White has been appointed as the Acting Deputy Director, stepping up from her role as the OMC Marketing Manager. Lindy has been with UQ for the past 12 years, in a number of roles in the Marketing team.

Melinda Kopanakis has been appointed to backfill the Marketing Manager role in OMC. Melinda joins OMC from her role as Manager, Marketing and Engagement in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

2018 UQ Guides update

UQ’s Australian Undergraduate Guide 2018 is now available online and in print. This central guide leads a suite of guides that promote UQ’s programs and lifestyle to students who will start university in 2018.

The 2018 guides complement and align closely with Future Students, offering prospective students and their parents a streamlined flow of information about UQ.

All six faculty guides have now gone to print and will be available in the coming weeks.

The 2018 UQ Guides have been created with extensive input from staff at OMC, OPSSE, faculties, UQI, UQ College, Academic Services Division, Admissions, Student Services, and a range of schools, institutes, departments and colleges.

Help UQ Idea Hub get the word out

UQ Idea Hub is running its second six-week program for 2017, and is looking for all opportunities to promote it to students.

This free, extra-curricular program teaches young innovators the basic knowledge to turn an idea into a startup and get a taste of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur.

Please share this through your networks before Friday 21 April. Promotional materials including suggested tweets, are available here.
